tech tug-of-war

by Geezer on August 9, 2010

Tech inclined seniors, with our fading eyesight, have been blessed this year with the arrival of two devices easier to see and work than the ever shrinking smart phones. Both Amazon’s Kindle and Apples’s iPad have their admirers. The Kindle is slightly lighter, less expensive ($259 vs.$499) and generally easier on the eyes than the backlit iPad screen. It’s battery lasts far longer. On the other hand it’s basically a way to read books vs. the iPad with its myriad of apps (an average of 20 new ones daily) which can do nearly everything a laptop can do, especially if you buy an external keyboard which saves you from one-finger typing.
