the wild welder

bullwinkleBerkeley alumni still nursing their nostalgia for the long-departed Cody’s bookstore might want to stop by Telegraph Ave to see its new incarnation. Now it is the Mad Monk Center for Anachronistic Media, which is long-hand for used books and LPs (including a whole section of German punk rock). But what makes a visit worth it are the array of droll sculptures by the wondrous Mark Bulwinkle. His work is instantly recognizable, wildly underground cartoonish and vaguely Mexican. Find his pieces all over the East Bay, including under the 80 Freeway at the Powell Street Exit and Emeryville’s Home Depot parking lot. A local treasure.
