Tambour is an 18th century French style of dense beading, cascading underneath a thin fabric, derived from Indian crafts. You can learn how to do it yourself this October 24 to 26 at the San Francisco School of Needlework and Design. It’s part of class that also includes monogramming. The School offers a rich, soothing  variety of instruction in embroidery, appliqué, crewel, gold work, needle painting and wired stump work, many of which are starting this month. No charges but you are encouraged to make a donation. For more ideas you should check out the School’s library which has over 3,000 inspiring volumes. Weekly you might want to bring your handwork to one of their free Stitch-Ins.
